We aim to improve our scientific understanding of:
Epilepsy
How the brain generates hyperexcitable networks known to contribute to seizures Sleep 2. How sleep can act as a homeostatic regulator of brain excitability Pharmacology 3. How novel pharmacological targets attenuate brain excitability Diet 4. How diet can protect the brain from seizures |
Intentionally designed
Collaborative and Integrative
We have created a unique collaborative work environment in which all members of our two laboratories feel as though they are apart of a family. We have extensive research laboratory space and equipment. Thus, members travel fluidly between laboratories. Undergraduate, graduate and medical students, postdoctoral fellows and our expert research technicians are able to regularly interact each other. We as PIs have an open door policy and try to see individuals multiple times a week. We are fortunate to live in a collegial atmosphere that has nurtured collaborations with other faculty throughout Creighton University College of Arts and Sciences, School of Pharmacy, and School of Medicine basic science and clinical departments. We also collaborate with multiple other universities internationally.
